The Kenyan special education system lack famewirk, inadequacies in teachers trained to handle special needs education and the few available are ill-equipped to support learners with disabilities and special needs, inadequate material, lack of appropriate tools, inadequate funding and lack of advocacy, sensitisation and mobilisation of education are some of the main challenges facing the sub-sector.
Children with disabilities at the grassroots are poor, stigmatized due to myths and misconceptions of disabled chilildren as outcasts, a sign of bad omen or curse.Parents and guardians,are dejected due to lack of awareness lack of active involvement in education of their children with disabilities.
The factors have contributed largely to low enrollment in schools and high dropout.
Our objective is bringing together Special Needs Education Community for purpose of empowerment, networking and mutual support.
